Vincent Van Gogh has always been one of my favorite artists of all time. His complex personality along with so much social struggles and his yearning to be accepted and loved by others, has made me go back not just to his art but his life history, letters and journals. I have found understanding the need to feel loved is such an important part of my life.
This class has evolved over the years for me. I use to teach it because all the kids loved to paint flowers and it was any easy way to introduce Vincent as an artist. Over time I found wanting to share his stories and history rather than just painting, I want to share the profound life lesson Vincent has helped me with. The simple word “love” is not so simple. It demands action. To love is to notice others and to be the one to help them feel loved and needed. So in my attempt to try and make a difference, this is my favorite lesson. I hope your kids can join us and have fun painting and learning so much more about our beautiful world and it’s history.
