I still remember the first time tints, tones, and shades of color theory finally made sense. As we grew up, we were surrounded by creativity and the beauty of art: our mom, aunts, and our older sister were always painting beautiful scenes of the ocean and landscapes of mountains. As children, we would sit in awe, watching them. They always encouraged us and helped us develop different skills, like perspective, shading, and balance design. The hardest concept for me to understand was Color Theory. I struggled as I tried to figure out in my mind, which seemed to be like magic. What I saw my Grandma do as she mixed simple colors into the beautiful shades, tints, and tones seemed impossible for me to master. I know I am a total visual learner, and I think my Grandma realized this as well. She finally took me and helped me unlock this mystery, with some simple one on one instruction. Once I understood the basics of Color Theory and how colors worked together forming these tints, tones, and shades, a whole new world of art opened up to me.
At Gypsy Jane's, we want to help your kids figure this out and help build their confidence and mixing colors, shading, and understanding how to achieve a depth of the subject.
One of our most fun and enlightening classes we offer are our doughnuts and cakes oil pastel classes. Sometimes it just takes a visual lesson and practice to master something.
We will start with oil pastels and move into paints throughout the class.
The kids walk away, having fun learning, and building their self-esteem.
