What Is Printmaking?
Printmaking has always been fascinating to me. This artistic process based on the principle of transferring images from a master or matrix onto another surface, most often paper or fabric. Traditionally printmaking techniques include woodcut, etching, engraving, and lithography, while modern artists have expanded available methods to include screen printing.
The Print "The Great Wave", has always been an iconic piece representing this type of art. We will guide the children through many beginning to intermediate printmaking skills. They will be so excited to take this and experiment with this at home. As they learn the history behind the artist and culture, it will help them have a higher appreciation for simple block prints they see on t-shirts and posters.
Each of your children will bring home their own book bag and other wall hangings to display their art work, along with the block they made for each print.
